I have released a new version, 1.6, that addresses this problem by creating text that can be pasted directly into the new spreadsheet Google provide. This allows you to set the URLs on a keyword-by-keyword basis, and also the bid price. (Note that you can only set one bid price.)

The documentation has not been updated yet, but the basic operation is very similar to the existing technique. Instead of pasting the keyword list into the space provided on the web site, you click on the top-left cell and paste the keyword list directly into the spreadsheet.

I’d like to ask you what you would like to see in the next version of Keyword Transformer Professional Edition.

The only two things I can think of are as follows at present:

1. ClickBank now accepts 24 characters in tracking links instead of eight. Keyword Transformer can be modified so that it provides 24-character tracking IDs.
2. I could write a version in Java, or a .NET language such as C#. Such a version would be compatible with Apple Mac- and Linux-based PCs, not just Windows PCs. This would be quite an ambitious undertaking for me, but if there is enough demand for it then I’ll look at doing it.

For example, if you were marketing red, green and blue widgets and wongles and you wanted every red item and every widget to appear in one ad group, you could filter on red and widget and have red widgets, red wongles, green widgets and blue widgets copied to your clipboard, ready for importing into an ad group, and leaving the remaining keywords in place, ready to be imported into other ad groups.

There is also a button to clear all the windows in the Combine function; various bugs with the Combine feature have been fixed; and output control makes it possible to provide negative matches for all keywords (which can be broad, phrase or exact match keywords, just as positive matches can be).

As usual, I have limited resources, which is why this is going out as a beta version at present. I suggest you at least download it if you are near your limit in terms of time remaining on your update contract, unless you intend to renew it. I have taken version 1.4.0 out of beta. The remaining web pages still need to be updated; I’ll do that later, after having some sleep.

2. A configurable limit to the number of keywords processed. The configuration may be saved and then it will be loaded automatically the next time you start the program.

There is one known bug in this edition that I haven’t had time to fix yet. That is that if you have any blank lines in the combiner windows, these are treated as lines containing words, and you will then get duplicates. This is perhaps least obvious when you have a blank line at the end of a list of keywords, because it is invisible. To detect this issue, move the cursor down to the very end of the list (hold the down arrow key down until the cursor stops moving) and then if the cursor is on a line by itself, keep pressing backspace until the cursor is on the very last line containing text.

It’s been some time since a new release of Keyword Transformer! However, I am close to releasing a new version of Keyword Transformer Professional Edition that provides encrypted keywords in URLs if desired. It is in need of some testing. I am therefore starting a beta programme. The conditions are as follows:

• Membership of this beta programme is open to owners of Keyword Transformer Professional Edition only. How you own it doesn’t matter – whether you purchased it or were given a promotional copy. If you only own the personal edition, you are not eligible.
• You do not need to be within your 90-day free upgrade period – this doesn’t matter.
• You must inform me of the email address you used when you purchased the product. If it has changed, you need to supply your new email address as well.

If you are interested in testing Keyword Transformer version 1.3.0 and you satisfy the above conditions, please add a comment to this post. Please also open a ticket at the helpdesk under the beta category that includes your email address – please do not submit it here as it would be published if you did so. The first ten people to complete both of these steps and who meet the conditions above will be invited to participate in the programme.

I anticipate that the programme will last about a week, though I reserve the right to extend it if necessary. If selected for the programme, you will be expected to test the new version of Keyword Transformer Professional Edition and any pre-release updates, and submit a report telling me what bugs you found.

1. It is possible to get to the stage where Keyword Transformer appears to have locked up; it ceases to update the screen, and it is identified by the system as not responding. Under these circumstances, it is normally still working on a long list that you have entered. Somebody used Keyword Transformer to convert an input list of 10,000 phrases into broad match, phrase match and exact match variations, so the output was 30,000 phrases; this worked, although it did take half an hour. If you want to be sure that Keyword Transformer 1.2.1 is still running, please do not cover the program window with any other windows while it’s running.

   Technically, this is happening because the current design is single-threaded. It’s quite easy to fix by making the application multi-threaded.

2. It is still the case that it takes inordinately longer to process a long list than it does a short list. As reported before, this is due to the duplicate detection code being somewhat inefficient at the present moment in time. Again, it’s relatively easy to solve.

• When two words are present in a key phrase and both Missed Spaces and Keyword Permutations are selected, the expected output “WordAWordB” would not be present in the output listing.
